NOARDA Projects for the Riverfront
NOARDA is a small group of committed local residents dedicated to providing a viable, dynamic destination area for North Aurora. We invite your participation and support of our efforts! Volunteers are welcome in any capacity. Your financial support is appreciated as we continue to bring attention to this untapped area of our town.
Take time to explore North Aurora's hidden gem, our Fox River riverfront. The area is located north and south of the State Street Bridge in North Aurora, just east of Rt. 31/Lincolnway and west of Rt. 25. Plans call for a variety of interest areas and destination spots throughout the riverfront. Our goal is to provide a destination that is environmentally conscious and family friendly.
The project, a 125 foot interactive stream, will bring environmental and educational enhancements to the Village of North Aurora’s downtown riverfront just west of the North Aurora Village Hall.
NOARDA proposed a resting stop/overlook for the undeveloped area north of the State Street Bridge on the river’s west side. The Fox Valley Park District created and approved a concept plan for the area based on this request. Features include a seating plaza overlook that will enhance the highly visible gathering spot just south of the dam through the use of stone, boulders and tiered seat walls. Island Park Picnic Shelter and Plaza 2011
The Fox Valley Park District is proceeding with a new picnic shelter and riverfront plaza that will replace the existing structure at North Aurora Island Park. While similar in size, the new shelter will feature a larger concrete pad to better accommodate large group gatherings. The design also includes an attractively styled, curved stone seat wall. Expected completion date: Fall, 2011
